1. What is MultiBanco?

MultiBanco is an interbank network in Portugal operated by SIBS, Sociedade Interbancária de Serviços, that provides over 60 services to cardholders, from the cash withdrawals at ATMs to internet payments.

2. Which banks will allow me to deposit via MultiBanco?

Almost all Portuguese banks can be used with MultiBanco.

3. How do I fund my account using MultiBanco?

  1. Log in to your account.
  2. Go to the 'Cashier' tab and select 'Deposit'.
  3. You will now see the MultiBanco logo. To select this deposit option simply click on the icon.
  4. Enter or select your deposit amount and bonus code (if applicable), then click on 'Deposit'.
  5. You will be displayed a unique 'Entity Number' and 'Payment Reference' that are required to complete your deposit using MultiBanco.
  6. You will be given a unique 'Entity Number' and 'Payment Reference'. Using this information you can complete your deposit in two ways:
    1. Visiting a MultiBanco ATM
      • Insert your card and enter you pin.
      • Select 'Payments & Other Services'.
      • Followed by 'Payments of Services/Purchases'.
      • Enter the 'Entity Number', 'Payment Reference' & 'Amount'
      • Retain the receipt as proof of payment.

    2. Using your Portuguese online banking system:
      • Log in to your online account.
      • Select 'Payments'.
      • Followed by 'Payments of Services/Purchases'.
      • Enter the 'Entity Number', 'Payment Reference' & 'Amount'
      • Retain the receipt as proof of payment.
  7. Upon confirmation of your payment the funds will be credited to your account.

4. Are there any fees associated with MultiBanco?

There is no charge for deposits made using MultiBanco.

5. How long does it take to receive the money transferred into my account?

The money will be transferred to your account instantly.

6. Can I withdraw to MultiBanco?

MultiBanco is currently only available as a deposit option.

7. Which currencies does MultiBanco transact in?

MultiBanco transacts in EUR only.

8. Can I use the same Payment Reference number for more than one deposit?

For future MultiBanco deposits you may use the same 'Payment Reference' but please remember that this is connected with the amount you entered originally when you obtained that 'Payment Reference'.If you wish to deposit with a different amount, please complete the deposit process again to obtain a new 'Payment Reference' connected to your new deposit amount.
